VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar inaugurated the much-awaited road widening project near Ozler Forum. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker, affected landowners, and local residents.
Addressing the media, Salkar highlighted the significance of the project, stating that it fulfills a 50-year-long demand of the Vasco community for improved road infrastructure.
“This development will ease traffic congestion, reduce accidents, and improve overall traffic flow. This location was a black spot, leading to several accidents and even fatalities. I am grateful to the affected landowners for their generosity in giving up prime land for the betterment of Vasco,” said Salkar.
He further stated that after the road widening, the area around St. Andrews Junction would be improved with traffic signals and aesthetic enhancements, including pavers and a proposed clock tower at the center to enhance the city’s appeal.
“Following this project, we will undertake the beautification of Swatantra Path at a cost of ₹12 crores. Our goal is to transform the overall look of Vasco. We expect to complete this road widening project within a month,” Salkar added.
He also revealed future plans for easing congestion, including widening Mangor Road by an additional 4 meters after completing a culvert and expanding internal roads in Bhutebhat to facilitate better traffic movement.
Salkar urged citizens to support these initiatives, emphasizing that cooperation from the people will help decongest the city and improve its infrastructure.
