PANAJI: During Road Safety Week, all traffic cells in the state booked 5,037 crimes, according to Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Prabodh Shirvoikar.
“We have proposed a number of things, such as placing signage on roads where it is necessary,” he stated. Education was emphasized.
Up to 8,668 persons, including workers, truck drivers, pedestrians, and schoolchildren, received education throughout this time.
Additionally, we organized special drives that resulted in 268 persons being arrested for drunk driving. Due to their court referral, their driver’s licenses will be automatically suspended.
“As many as 368 people were booked for exceeding the speed limit, 147 for using a phone while driving, 34 for jumping signals, 236 for failing to wear seat belts, 93 for having more than one pillion rider on a two-wheeler, 1,536 for driving without helmets, 28 for having tinted glass, 39 for driving a vehicle without number plates, and 83 for having fancy number plates,” the SP stated.
He urged everyone to follow the traffic laws and refrain from using the highway, adding that the drive will go on.
He warned against driving after drinking.
