VASCO: Congress leader Viriato Fernandes on Friday alleged that around 60 odd cars from Delhi with Non-Goan drivers are operating as taxis from a counter at Goa Airport, Dabolim.
Fernandes speaking to the media said that the Taxi counter at Dabolim Airport earlier had Goan Taxi operators that were removed before bringing in Delhi-based cars
“This counter had around 150 Goan-based taxis but they were removed from here about a month ago. The counter has now got 60 taxis from Delhi with Delhi registration numbers which were changed after re-registering in Goa. Besides this, the counter operator has got 120 non-Goan drivers for these 60 taxis who speak in Hindi and don’t even have taxi badges,” he said.
Viriato said these drivers and taxis have displaced our hardworking Goan taxi operators and we feel that there is a direct involvement of Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho.
“This is a very bad situation and This Government can be bought with money. I appeal the CM Dr Pramod Sawant to investigate this issue if he is bothered about the Goans,” he said.
Viriato says CM Dr Pramod Sawant must investigate why the Goans have been thrown out and how Delhi-based taxis with non-Goan drivers who don’t have taxi badges are allowed here.
“Some of these taxis don’t even have digital fare meters and are operating smoothly while our RTO is constantly harassing our Goan taxi operators for badges and meters. If this does not stop immediately, we will definitely get along with all the people across Goa and expose this Government”, said Viriato.
