COLLEM: In the early hours of Tuesday, a man from Karnataka was caught red-handed while allegedly transporting 600 kilograms of beef illegally across the Goa border.
As per a complaint filed by Ketan Chowgule, Veterinary Officer at the Veterinary Dispensary in Mollem, the incident took place around 2:30 AM on August 5 at the Border Check Post (BCP) in Mollem.
The accused, identified as Yasin Bepari, a resident of Belagavi, Karnataka, was found transporting the meat in a Toyota Innova vehicle without any valid documents or permits from the competent authority. The beef was reportedly sourced from Hubli, Karnataka, and was intended for sale in Goa.
The act is said to be in contravention of the Goa Animal Preservation Act. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Rohan Naik of Collem Police Station.
