SANCOALE: Sancoale Communidade today has carried out demolition of 64 structures built illegally on communidade land.
The demolition drive took place under heavy police presence at Sancoale.
Communidade officials speaking to the media said people had been warned over the years of demolition but they chose to ignore the committee warnings.
They said the police were summoned to the site, but the occupants obstructed them, using abusive and filthy language. They said that they had appealed to the state government to provide necessary help to initiate legal action against the illegal structures.
They also said that Sancoale has highest number of illegal structures in State built on comunidade land at Zuarinagar and therefore as the owner of the land, the State government should first ensure that the rights of the comunidade are protected.
They have also demanded the government to compulsorily consult the comunidade bodies, before taking a final decision on the regularisation of unauthorised structures Bill.
Speaking to media, Narayan Datta Naik, a component of the comunidade, instituted writ petition no. 452/2016 complaining that the demolition/ restoration orders were deliberately not being implemented to favour the petitioners in their continued use of the encroached property and the unlawful construction carried out therein.
The High Court of Bombay at Goa had delivered order in the 16-year-old Sancoale Comunidade case ordering demolition of the illegal structures on the Comunidade lands.
The petition before the HC had challenged the order dated September 2019 passed by the Administrator of Comunidade, South Zone, Margao rejecting petitioners’ applications for review of the order dated November 2017, by which the Administrator had declined to regularise the brazen encroachments carried out by the petitioners upon the Comunidade’s property surveyed under No.115/1, Sancoale
