New Delhi: Indian security forces successfully thwarted a major infiltration attempt in the Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir during the night of May 8-9, eliminating at least seven terrorists who were attempting to cross the border with the support of Pakistan Rangers.
According to the Border Security Force (BSF), the infiltration was detected by its surveillance systems as a group of heavily armed militants tried to cross into Indian territory under the cover of cross-border firing from Pakistan’s Dhandhar post. The BSF responded with force, neutralizing the threat and inflicting significant damage on the Pakistani military post that was providing cover fire.
“Alert troops of the BSF neutralised the infiltration bid, killing at least seven terrorists and causing extensive damage to the Pak Post Dhandhar,” the BSF said in an official statement. A video showing the destruction of the Pakistani post was also released.
This incident fits a familiar pattern, highlighting how the Pakistani military continues to aid and abet terrorist elements attempting to destabilize the region. India has long maintained that Pakistan remains a hub for terrorism, routinely providing safe passage and logistical support to infiltrators along the border.
The infiltration attempt followed a recent series of failed aerial attacks originating from Pakistan. Missiles and drones targeted Indian military bases in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, as well as civilian areas in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Punjab. All incoming aerial threats were successfully intercepted and neutralized, with no reported casualties or damage.
Following the thwarted air attacks, Pakistani troops resumed firing on Indian positions and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC). In retaliation, Indian forces launched a counteroffensive, destroying multiple Pakistani military posts.
Amid heightened tensions, local authorities enforced nighttime blackouts in border cities including Jammu, Srinagar, and parts of Punjab and Rajasthan. In Chandigarh, air raid sirens were activated early Friday morning after a warning from the local Air Force Station, advising residents to stay indoors and away from windows and balconies.
In response to the escalating situation, authorities have temporarily shut down operations at 24 airports to ensure public safety and maintain operational readiness.
