Assam: In a landmark moment for inter-state police collaboration, 700 recruits from Goa Police have completed their 43-week basic training at the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy (LBPA) in Assam’s Golaghat district. Drawn from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Indian Reserve Battalions, the recruits underwent intensive instruction in fitness, endurance, field tactics, and weapon handling since their arrival on October 4, 2024.
The passing-out parade, held on Tuesday, was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. Both leaders hailed the programme as a model of national integration and professional excellence.
Calling the event a “proud moment for Assam,” CM Sarma lauded the academy’s ability to provide high-quality training to Goa’s recruits and expressed readiness to extend similar support to police forces from across India. He credited Union Home Minister Amit Shah for inaugurating the LBPA, which he described as a matter of pride for both Assam and the country.
Goa CM Sawant thanked the Assam government and LBPA for their efforts, noting that he had maintained regular contact with the cadets throughout their training and had received consistently positive feedback. He described the programme as a source of pride for Goa and a testament to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Akhanda Bharat,” adding that the initiative had strengthened ties between the two states.
The ceremony featured an oath-taking, ceremonial march past, prize distribution, and a demonstration by the academy’s elite “Panthers on Wheels” unit. Assam DGP Harmeet Singh highlighted LBPA’s standing as one of India’s leading police training institutions, noting its past work with 2,000 Manipur Police cadets and its recent request from Bhutan to train its personnel.
With its focus on discipline, skill-building, and cooperation across state borders, LBPA has established itself as a vital contributor to India’s law enforcement capabilities and a hub for fostering unity through professional training.
