PANAJI: A total of 78 candidates have filed 80 nominations for the upcoming Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) elections, with contests expected across all 30 wards, according to the official nomination report.

The highest number of candidates has been recorded in Ward XXVI (General) with five candidates filing nominations, while Wards I, XI and XXIV have four candidates each, indicating keen competition in these areas.
Most wards have two to three candidates in the fray, reflecting a moderate contest across the capital city. In Ward XII, candidate Brijesh Kavlekar has filed two nominations, contributing to the total of 80 nominations despite 78 candidates contesting the polls.
Several prominent candidates are in the race, including Rohit Monserrate (Ward IV), Sudin Kamat (Ward V), and Kabir Makhija (Ward IX) among others.
The CCP election will see contests in General, Women, OBC and ST-reserved wards, with candidates representing different sections of society.
Election officials said the scrutiny of nominations will determine the final list of candidates after which the campaign is expected to gather momentum in the capital city.
The CCP polls are expected to witness keen contests in several wards as candidates gear up for campaigning in the coming days.
