Mumbai:
A catastrophic explosion at an ordnance factory in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district has left a trail of destruction and tragedy, resulting in the loss of one life and a frantic rescue operation to save those trapped. The blast, which was powerful enough to be heard 5 km away, occurred in the LTP section of the factory, causing a roof collapse and ensnaring several workers. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have swiftly responded to the incident, confirming the casualties and the ongoing rescue efforts.
The explosion took place around 10:30 am in the LTP section of the factory, located in the Jawahar Nagar area of Bhandara district. The blast was of such intensity that it caused a significant roof collapse, trapping 14 workers who were on duty at the time. So far, three workers have been rescued alive, while search and rescue operations continue for the remaining trapped employees.
Firefighters, medical staff, and local disaster teams, including those from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are at the scene working tirelessly to contain the situation and assist in the rescue. An excavator is being used to remove debris and reach the trapped workers, highlighting the complexity and danger of the rescue operation.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has confirmed the casualty and assured that top officials and additional rescue teams from Nagpur are en route to assist. Medical teams are also on standby to provide immediate help to the injured. The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased worker and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The incident has underscored the risks and challenges faced by workers in critical industrial sectors and the importance of swift and effective emergency response mechanisms.
