Ponda: An 80-year-old woman, Satyavati Gaonkar, resident of Kumber Wada, Dharbandora, succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
The tragic incident occurred on July 26 while she was travelling to Sacorda with her grandson.
According to police reports, Satyavati was a passenger in a Wagon-R car driven by her grandson, Keshav Gaonkar. During the journey from Dharbandora to Sacorda, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and collided with a roadside tree.
The impact caused serious internal injuries to Satyavati.
Despite medical intervention at GMC Bambolim, she passed away during treatment. A postmortem was conducted by the Police Surgeon, who certified the cause of death as “Haemorrhagic shock as a result of mesenteric haemorrhage consequent to blunt force impact by surface and/or object in a person with alleged history of motor vehicle accident.”
The body was handed over to the family for final rites. The enquiry is being conducted by PSI Krishna Gawas of Ponda Police Station.
