MOLLEM: The Collem Police on Saturday intercepted a vehicle at the Mollem Border Check Post and seized around 800 kg of beef allegedly being transported illegally from Karnataka for sale in Goa.
As per the complaint lodged by Dr. Ketan Chowgule, Veterinary Officer, Veterinary Dispensary Mollem (Dharbandora), the accused Iliyas Bilal Talikuti, a resident of Dharwad, Karnataka, was caught red-handed at around 2:01 am while transporting the beef in a Mahindra Xylo.
Police stated that the accused was found carrying the consignment without valid documents or authorization from the competent authority, in violation of the Goa Animal Preservation Act.
The seized meat, estimated to weigh approximately 800 kg, was reportedly brought from Alnavar, Karnataka for sale in Goa.
Further investigation is underway under the supervision of ASI Dayanand Kajumolkar of Collem Police Station.
