MAPUSA: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) today destroyed 800 kgs of chemically ripened bananas worth Rs 65,000 seized during a special surveillance drive at Mapusa sub yard.
“A Surveillance drive today, at Mapusa sub yard to check for artificial ripening of fruits. During the checks, a Wholesale shop was found to have stocked Chemically Ripened Bananas Approx 800 kgs,” the FDA said.
FDA further said that the chemical liquid ethaphone which was used for ripening, was also seized from the shop, and Banana stock sprayed with chemicals was destroyed with the help of the Chief officer of Mapusa Municipality.
The banana stock destroyed was worth approx. Rs. 65000/-. In addition, fruit samples were drawn and sent to the food laboratory.
