PANAJI: On World Organ Donation Day, the Dean of Goa Medical College addressed all medical students about the need for organ donation and appealed to pledge as an organ donor.
Around 800 medical students promised to pledge their organs on this occasion.
As part of improving the organ transplant program “NAVE JIVIT” a new life in Goa, the HLA Lab setup at Goa Medical College has been made operational in the presence of Hon’ble Shri Vishwajit P Rane, Health Minister Government of Goa.
Health Minister during his address to the staff at GMC expressed his gratitude on the inauguration of the HLA Lab.
He further stated that “This is another feather in the cap of Goa Medical College & Hospital. Today, more and more people are coming forward for Organ Donation and with this facility in place, the people of Goa will not have to go out of the state to do this test. I congratulate and wish Dr. S. R. Kankonkar and her team for setting up this state-of-art lab that will benefit the state of Goa and the institution of GMC”
Dean GMC Dr. S. M. Bandekar during his address to the staff at GMC stated that, “On the occasion of World Organ Donation Day, we are really happy to have inaugurated the HLA Lab at the hands of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. It was the dream of Health Minister that today we have an in-house facility to conduct tests and enhance our Diseases Donor Program.
This specialty Lab provides all transplant related testing at one centre. This Lab came into being under the name of “Dept. of Histocompatibility & Tx Immunology” from 2018. The Lab has adequate facilities and the required technical competence to carry out various tests related to the organ transplant and used for autoimmune disorders.
