Panaji: The Department of Chemistry, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa – Goa, in collaboration with the Institution Innovation Council, hosted the 9th Festival of Innovation, a one-day state-level workshop for Schools, HSS and Colleges across Goa, on the 14th of February, 2025.
At the outset, Ms. Kathleen Pinto, Head of the Department of Chemistry gave the gathering a gist of the various activities taken up by the department of Chemistry.
The Principal Ms. Ursula Barreto then welcomed the gathering consisting of 29 participating institutes with her impactful insights on nurturing the seeds of innovation. The Chief Guest, Ryan Vaz, Founder, and Director, Infinyt3D, in his keynote address, listed 5 steps to being an innovator and also raised awareness about incubation centres established by the IIC, Government of India, to support idea development and implementation.
The Guest of Honor, Mr Rohit Gupta, General Manager, Human Resource and Admin, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Limited, emphasized the role of innovation in sustaining industries.
A significant highlight of the event was the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Chemistry, St. Xavier’s College, and Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd., marking a collaboration for academic and industrial growth.
The Inaugural session concluded with Ms. Sheryl D’Cruz, coordinator of the event, proposing the vote of thanks.
The competition had an intriguing array of scientific models based on the concepts of light, sound, sensors, colours, cleansing methods etc.

In the school category: The 1st place was bagged by Ms Rhyssa Judith De Souza and Ms Diksha Baile of the Our Lady of The Rosary High School, Cujira Bambolim, 2nd place by Ms Kashish Sunil Shirodkar and Ms Maeve Agisha Almeida of St. Thomas Girls High School, Aldona, while the 3rd place was won by Mr. Zuriel D’Souza and Mr. Keith Ejipsy of St. Britto High School, Mapusa.
In the HSS category: The 1st place was secured by Mr Saksham S. Faldesai and Ms Tanishka S. Kolvekar from Shree Damodar HSS, Comba, Margao, 2nd place by Ms Deepali Maurya and Ms Sanvi Gaonkar of People’s HSS, Panaji and 3rd place by Atharva N. Chowdhari and Aaryan A. Kauthankar of St. Xavier’s HSS, Mapusa.
In the college category: The 1st place was won by Siddhant Alornecar and Vedant Pai from Dnyanprassarak Mandals College and Research Center, Assagao Goa, 2nd place by Alfina Rodrigues and Ms. Aditi Naik from Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem and 3rd place by Varad Satarkar and Ms. Aachal Gawandalkar of Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Mandrem.
