New Delhi: Indian tennis players delivered a stellar performance at the ITF W15 Women’s World Ranking tournament, clinching all four titles in a remarkable display of skill and determination. The tournament concluded on Sunday, highlighting the growing talent in Indian women’s tennis.
Zeel Desai Triumphs in Singles
In an all-Indian singles final, Zeel Desai staged a brilliant comeback to defeat compatriot Shruti Ahlawat 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. After dropping the first set, Zeel regrouped and showcased her resilience, claiming her first title of the season.
“It feels amazing to win after coming from behind,” said Zeel. “This is my second final of the year—I was runner-up in Monastir, Tunisia, in April but had to retire. Winning here is very special.”
Sravya Shivani and Pranjala Yadlapalli Shine in Doubles
The doubles final also featured an all-Indian showdown, with Sravya Shivani partnering experienced campaigner Pranjala Yadlapalli to defeat Mahika Khanna and Sohini Mohanty 6-4, 6-0. Their commanding performance underscored the depth and quality of Indian women’s doubles tennis.
All-Indian Sweep Highlights Growing Talent
With victories in both singles and doubles, Indian players claimed all four trophies at the event—a rare and memorable feat for the nation’s tennis circuit. The tournament was hosted by The Tennis Project, led by India’s Billie Jean King Cup captain Vishal Uppal, who expressed pride in the home players’ achievements.
“The performance of the Indian players truly makes all the hard work in hosting such tournaments worth it,” Uppal said. “The field was strong, featuring top-quality players from the USA, Russia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and New Caledonia. Women’s tennis in India is showing real growth, and these results speak for themselves.”
