PANAJI: In a major step towards strengthening women’s cricket, the Goa Cricket Association inaugurated the state’s first Pink Cricket Centre at the Sanquelim Municipal Ground. The initiative is designed to provide dedicated infrastructure and training opportunities for aspiring female cricketers, encouraging wider participation and nurturing talent at the grassroots level.
The launch event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Sulakshana Sawant, Chairperson of Padmini Foundation, and Siddhi Porob, Chairperson of the Sankhali Municipal Council, along with key association officials and members. The occasion highlighted a collective commitment to building inclusive sporting platforms for young athletes.
The centre is expected to benefit players from nearby regions such as Sattari and Bicholim, offering them access to structured coaching and professional guidance. A notable feature of the initiative is the inclusion of women coaches, aimed at creating a supportive and encouraging environment for young girls pursuing the sport.
Officials emphasised that the project reflects a broader vision to promote women’s empowerment through sports. The strong response from local girls, particularly in Sanquelim, played a key role in shaping the initiative. Encouraged by this enthusiasm, plans are already underway to expand similar centres to other parts of Goa, including Porvorim, Cujira, Chicalim and Margao.
The centre has been developed in collaboration with Eagles Sports Club, recognising its long standing contribution to sports development in the region. The concept also draws inspiration from initiatives that highlight the role of women in public service and leadership.
The facility is expected to serve as a safe and structured space where young players can develop their skills and pursue their ambitions. With consistent support and focused training, the initiative aims to prepare Goan women cricketers for higher levels of competition, including national platforms and professional leagues, marking a significant step forward in the state’s sporting landscape.
