PONDA: A farmer who sacrificed his land for Ponda 15 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plant today protested at the Plant site stating that the government cheated them by not paying the compensation it promised.
The Farmer, Tukaram Gaude, said one Pradeep Gaude from sewerage officials used to visit their family to get their land for STP.
“I was never ready as it was my livelihood; however, he lured me to promise jobs and hall. So I had agreed with Sewerage Department that he was offering his agricultural land in exchange for two jobs and one Wedding Hall. But the government acquired his land six years ago and even constructed the building for the sewerage plant but never bothered to fulfil the promise given to him and his family,” he alleged.
He said he met almost Ministers, including the local MLA and Power Minister, but he was neglected.
He said after losing land for STP, he lost his livelihood, and his family is suffering.
“If the government fails to provide compensation, he will stage indefinite agitation,” he said.
Revolutionary Goans leader Premanand Gaude said the government should honour the promise given to poor farmers.
“We don’t want any politics. If government fulfils its promise, then there is no issue,” he said.
He said today they went to meet sewerage AE, but he avoided them by not attending office.
