Panaji: In the vibrant city of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, a remarkable sports event unfolded from March 26 to 29, 2025. The Jimmy George Sports Hub Swimming Pool was abuzz with talent as the XXVI National Deaf Senior Swimming Championship took place, organized by the All India Sports Council of the Deaf. Amidst this pool of gifted athletes, Aahil Sheikh from Goa stood out, weaving an impressive tale of dedication and triumph. Under the expert guidance of Coach Sujith T.A. at the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence in Panjim, Aahil perfected his skills, culminating in a spectacular performance that left a lasting impact on the championships.
Aahil’s prowess in the pool earned him a total of five prestigious medals, comprising four golds and one bronze. His gold medal victories came in the grueling distances of the 1500m freestyle, 800m freestyle, and 400m freestyle, while he also dominated the 200m freestyle, setting a new National Meet Record in the process. Additionally, he secured a bronze in the 100m butterfly, further solidifying his position as a force to be reckoned with in the deaf sports community. This outstanding achievement not only brings pride to Goa but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring deaf athletes nationwide.
Aahil Sheikh’s performance is a testament to the incredible talent emerging from the deaf sports community, and his journey underscores the importance of perseverance and coaching in achieving excellence.
