PANAJI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa has officially accepted the resignation of its Working President, Shri Rajesh Kalangutkar, citing differences over the party’s stance on forming an alliance with the Congress.
In his resignation letter, Shri Kalangutkar highlighted the issue of a Congress alliance as the primary reason for stepping down. AAP, however, emphasized that its strong opposition to such an alliance stems from repeated defections of Congress MLAs to the BJP, which have undermined governance in Goa.
“Far from taking any confidence-building measures, the Congress is preparing to field candidates in the 2027 elections who are likely to defect to BJP if elected,” said Adv. Amit Palekar, State President of AAP Goa, referring to a recent statement by former MP Francisco Sardinha, who reportedly indicated that Congress MLAs would jump to the BJP if the party fails to secure a majority.
“AAP cannot facilitate the formation of a BJP government in Goa,” the party said, stressing that it aims to build an alliance directly with the people of Goa, who have suffered due to defections and misgovernance.
Given the fundamental difference on this issue, the party accepted Kalangutkar’s resignation, making clear that any attempt to forge an alliance with Congress would contradict AAP’s core principles.
