PANAJI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa unit has levelled serious allegations of corruption and negligence against the Public Works Department (PWD), demanding immediate repairs to damaged roads and greater transparency in awarding contracts. A delegation led by Adv. Amit Palekar and Sandesh Telekar Desai met with PWD Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar on Friday to highlight the poor condition of roads across the state, pointing out pothole-ridden stretches, unplanned and unmarked speed breakers, incomplete footpaths and bridges, and inadequate drainage that leads to waterlogging during the monsoon. The party alleged that contracts worth ₹155 crore were awarded without e-tendering, including ₹20 crore through direct nomination, and claimed that ₹15 crore in pothole repair work in Calangute, Mapusa, and Thivim was given to a politically connected individual despite actual costs being estimated at only ₹59 lakh. AAP demanded blacklisting of contractors delivering substandard work, a full audit and public disclosure of all such contracts, an investigation into the alleged irregularities, and the establishment of an effective public grievance redressal system for infrastructure issues.
