PORVORIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday said that the BJP-led government was compelled to begin road repair works in Porvorim following massive public pressure generated through its #BJPCheBurak campaign.
Addressing a Facebook Live from the damaged Porvorim–Giri road, AAP leaders Shrikrishna Parab, Chetan Kamat, and Rohan Naik said that over one lakh citizens had sent letters demanding road repairs, forcing the authorities to act after months of neglect.
AAP Organisation Secretary Shrikrishna Parab said the government had issued over 40 tenders and given a 15-day assurance to begin works, but warned that the party would maintain strict vigilance over the quality of construction.
“Such a thin layer of asphalt will not withstand heavy vehicles. If the government stops after this layer, it will be shameful and expose corruption. We will use the RTI Act to obtain details and make them public,” Parab said.
AAP leader Chetan Kamat alleged that the quality of bitumen being used was poor and questioned whether the repairs would even last five months. “At least work has started due to public pressure, but we will soon see if the quality holds up,” he said.
AAP Youth Wing President Rohan Naik described the ongoing work as a “superficial fix meant to silence citizens” and said the party would ensure accountability.
AAP concluded by demanding that the government end the alleged practice of taking commissions in public works contracts and instead ensure durable, high-quality roads for the people of Goa. The party reiterated that it would continue to inspect road projects across the state and expose any substandard work through live broadcasts.
