PANAJI: AAP Goa President Adv. Amit Palekar on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP and its youth wing BJYM after it issued a three-day ultimatum to AAP MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas to apologise for allegedly trespassing into the BJP office.
Calling BJYM the “Bouncer Janta Yuva Morcha,” Palekar said the threat was not only against AAP but against all Goans who question the government. “BJP is a party of gundas that shelters rape accused, extortionists and criminals. Their three-day ultimatum proves their intimidation politics,” Palekar said at a press conference in Panaji.
He accused BJYM of double standards, reminding them of their silence during incidents such as the daylight assault on activist Rama Kankonkar, the denial of reservation to the ST community, rising unemployment, and student protests. “Where was BJYM when Goans were suffering? Why no outrage then?” he asked.
AAP leaders also dismissed the trespassing charge against Capt. Viegas, clarifying that he had entered a common building housing several offices. “Calling this trespass is absurd. If BJP really believed it was trespass, they should have filed an FIR instead of issuing threats,” said AAP General Secretary (Organisation) Shrikrishna Parab, who added that the ultimatum was an attempt to intimidate Goans.
AAP Joint Secretary Pujan Malvankar criticised the newly elected BJYM president, calling his threats a missed opportunity to address youth concerns. “Unemployment is the biggest challenge Goan youth face today, but instead of focusing on solutions, BJYM parrots BJP’s intimidation politics,” he said.
Palekar meanwhile challenged BJP directly: “Who is BJYM to issue an ultimatum to an elected MLA? We are not afraid. Let BJP come, we will see what they can do.”
