VASCO:T he Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa on Tuesday launched a door-to-door campaign in Mormugao constituency to highlight the dangers of coal transportation and double-tracking, accusing the BJP government of prioritising corporates over the health of Goans.
The campaign began at Sada junction, where AAP leaders visited houses located close to the railway tracks to demonstrate how coal dust has seeped into people’s homes. AAP leader Sandesh Teleikar Dessai wiped layers of dust off a local household’s window panes and switchboards during a Facebook Live broadcast, calling it proof of daily suffering.
“This is not just coal dust, it is the slow death of our people. The BJP government is shamelessly pushing double-tracking to allow more coal transportation, without caring for Vasco residents. Families are suffering, children are falling sick, and vulnerable communities are being pushed to the edge,” Dessai said.
He also hit out at Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai over his recent remarks that coal transportation would be stopped if he became Chief Minister. “What was Sardesai doing when he was Deputy CM? His silence then proves he is no different from the BJP. Congress, GFP, BJP—all are opportunists who only care about power, not people,” Dessai alleged.
AAP said the campaign would continue house-to-house in Vasco to “expose the dark reality of coal transportation” and hold the government accountable in the 2027 Assembly elections.
Party leader Sunil Loran added that Goa should focus on industries that generate employment while following sustainable practices. “Instead of expanding coal capacity, the government must invest in sustainable development. What the BJP is doing today is robbing people of their health and their future,” he said.
