MARGAO: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa on Sunday marked the third anniversary of the defection of eight Congress MLAs to the BJP in 2022 with a symbolic celebration of what it termed the “BJP-Congress wedding.”
At a press conference in Margao, AAP leaders — Working President Valmiki Naik, General Secretary (Campaign) Sandesh Teleikar-Desai, Vice-President Roque Mascarenhas, and Spokesperson Pio Kevin — cut a cake to mark the “wedding anniversary” while accusing both BJP and Congress of betraying the people of Goa.
Naik alleged that Congress had repeatedly aided BJP in forming governments in Goa and warned that if the party won seats in 2027, it would “do it again.” He also questioned the authenticity of the loyalty affidavits Congress candidates had showcased before the 2022 election, claiming they were merely a “photo-op.”
Referring to the Delhi Assembly polls, Teleikar-Desai accused Congress of “actively collaborating” with the BJP, citing Congress’ election expenditure and its strategy to “defeat AAP rather than win.”
Mascarenhas pointed to recent entrants into Congress who had openly supported BJP during the Lok Sabha polls, suggesting a pre-arranged “setting” for the 2027 Goa elections.
Meanwhile, Kevin appealed to voters not to fall for “dirty backdoor politics,” asserting that AAP’s MLAs had stayed loyal and delivered development despite being in the opposition. He urged Goans to elect a full majority AAP government in 2027 to bring the “Arvind Kejriwal model of development” to the state.
