PANAJI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Velim, Cruz Silva, will move three significant Private Member Resolutions during the upcoming monsoon session of the Goa Legislative Assembly scheduled to begin on July 21, 2025.
The resolutions, set to be taken up during the sitting on July 25, span across education, town planning, and cultural recognition. According to Assembly documents, the first resolution seeks to introduce the Roman (Romi) script as an optional medium for teaching Konkani in schools. Citing the constitutional rights of linguistic minorities and the multilingual approach of the New Education Policy 2020, the resolution calls for curriculum development, teacher training, and adequate resource allocation to facilitate Romi Konkani education.
In another resolution, Silva has urged the government to formulate a new Regional Plan for Goa with public participation and to freeze the existing RP2021 until the new plan is notified. The resolution is aimed at ensuring sustainable development through democratic and transparent planning processes.
The third resolution pays tribute to Goa’s freedom struggle icons by proposing the renaming of the Lohia Memorial in Assolna to include Dr Juliao Menezes’ name. The memorial will henceforth be known as “Dr Juliao Menezes Memorial, Lohia Chouk, Assolna.” It also calls for an annual state-level function on June 18—Goa Revolution Day—and for the Assolna Panchayat to receive a special grant for the memorial’s upkeep and facelift.
All three resolutions have been submitted for discussion and reflect AAP’s continued focus on grassroots participation, inclusive education, and recognition of Goa’s historical legacy.
