CHINCHINIM: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Cruz Silva has formally written to the Village Panchayat of Deussua-Chinchinim in Salcete, demanding the immediate revocation of the operating license of Sevda Clinic & Diagnostic Centre, following serious criminal allegations against its proprietor.
Dr. Samuel Arawattigi, the clinic’s owner and practitioner, has been arrested and remains in police custody after being accused of molestation and rape by a nurse employed at his facility. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting urgent calls for action from public representatives.
In a letter addressed to the Sarpanch and Panchayat members, MLA Silva emphasized the gravity of the allegations and their impact on public safety and community trust. “The alleged molestation and rape… has not only shaken the trust and dignity of our community but has also created an atmosphere of fear and shame among residents,” Silva wrote.
Citing the need for moral responsibility and public accountability, the MLA called for the immediate suspension of the clinic’s operations pending the outcome of the ongoing legal investigation. “Until the case reaches its rightful legal conclusion, allowing the clinic to continue operations poses a serious concern,” Silva stated.
Silva affirmed that such a step would reflect the Panchayat’s commitment to justice and the well-being of its people, and offered his availability for further discussions.
The Village Panchayat has yet to issue a formal response to the MLA’s request.
The incident has intensified scrutiny over private medical establishments and the vetting processes for healthcare providers in Goa. Law enforcement authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
