Panaji: In the wake of its poor performance in the recently concluded Zilla Panchayat elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has effected a major leadership change in Goa. Advocate Amit Palekar has been removed from the post of President of the party’s Goa State unit with immediate effect.
The decision was taken by the party’s Political Affairs Committee and comes a day after the Zilla Panchayat results were declared, in which AAP managed to win only one seat across the State. The electoral outcome is being seen as a key factor behind the leadership reshuffle.
Goa State General Secretary Shrikrishna Parab has been entrusted with additional responsibility and will function as the State President until further instructions from the party’s central leadership.
Confirming the development, the party said in a press release that Amit Palekar has been relieved of his duties as State President with immediate effect, and Shrikrishna Parab has been assigned the role on an interim basis. The party has not indicated whether a permanent appointment will be made in the near future.
