MAPUSA: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly criticised the Pramod Sawant-led BJP government after a 25-year-old youth lost his life on the Cuchelim–Marna road in Mapusa while trying to avoid potholes. AAP leaders said the BJP only acts after tragedies, leaving citizens to risk their lives on unsafe roads.
AAP General Secretary (Organisation) Shrikrishna Parab said, “It took the tragic death of a young boy for the government to act. And even then, only the accident spot was patched. How many more lives will be lost before we get proper road infrastructure?” He urged new PWD Minister Digambar Kamat to speed up repairs across Goa.
AAP Vice President Sunil Singnapurkar questioned the accountability of PWD engineers. “Crores were spent on tenders before monsoons, yet Mapusa’s roads remain among the worst. Where has the money gone?” he asked.
AAP Goa Youth Wing Vice President Salman Khan criticised the poor quality of patchwork. “If potholes are loosely filled with rubble, why do we even need MLAs? People pay taxes but get dangerous roads. We will do the work ourselves if the MLA fails to deliver,” he said.
Alongside its criticism, AAP has intensified its #BJPCheBurak signature campaign against unsafe roads. After launching in Saligao on September 4, the campaign has spread to Bicholim, Priol, Thivim, and Mayem, drawing strong public participation.
In Thivim, the drive was led by Uday Salkar, while in Mayem, Shrikrishna Parab spearheaded the campaign. Citizens expressed anger and frustration at the crumbling road infrastructure, which they described as “death traps.”
AAP leaders said the overwhelming response to the campaign shows growing public anger and a readiness to hold the BJP accountable. The party termed the movement a fight to demand accountability, expose the “BJP-contractor nexus,” and ensure safe roads for Goans.
