BAMBOLIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come down heavily on the Goa government after the daylight assault on social activist Rama Kankonkar, calling it proof of a complete collapse of law and order in the state.
Benaulim MLA Capt. Venzy Viegas demanded that the Goa DGP identify and arrest the culprits within 24 hours, warning that AAP would take to the streets if justice was delayed. He accused Chief Minister and Home Minister Pramod Sawant of failing to rein in growing violence, gang wars, and assaults.
AAP Goa President Amit Palekar described the incident as an attack not only on Kankonkar but also on the ST community and whistle-blowers protecting Goa. “Criminals have no fear left, and the police have failed to instill deterrence,” Palekar said.
AAP National Spokesperson Valmiki Naik alleged that the attack was an attempt to silence independent voices. He recalled that while Kankonkar was swiftly arrested in the past when allegations were made against him, the same urgency must now be shown in booking his attackers.
AAP leaders warned that if the culprits are not apprehended immediately, the party will intensify its agitation on the streets.
