PANAJI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lashed out at the Goa government, accusing it of responding too late to the people’s distress over deteriorating road conditions and delayed repair works.
AAP general secretary Srikrishna Parab said the State administration acted only after sustained public outrage expressed through the party’s #BJPCheBurak campaign. The campaign saw over one lakh Goans sign petitions demanding immediate road repairs, which were later submitted to the Chief Minister.
“For months, Goans have been risking their lives on unsafe, pothole-ridden roads. The government moved only after we handed over one lakh petitions. Now, suddenly, over 40 tenders have been issued — this shows how insensitive and reactive this government is,” Parab said at a press briefing.
Flanked by party vice president Chetan Kamat, Parab criticised the poor-quality patchwork carried out before the monsoon, calling it a reflection of the government’s lack of foresight and planning.
“It’s shocking that the authorities realised the need for functional hot-mix plants only after floating tenders. This government’s inefficiency is unmatched,” Parab remarked.
Kamat, meanwhile, warned the government not to make hollow assurances, referring to the Chief Minister’s 15-day timeline for road repairs. “If the promises remain on paper, AAP will return to the streets to hold the government accountable,” he said.
Reiterating the party’s stand, Parab added, “Goans deserve safe and well-maintained roads, not excuses. AAP will continue to fight until every pothole is fixed and every paisa spent is transparent.”
