PANAJI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has extended heartfelt congratulations to the young team behind the Konkani film “Ancessao,” which won two prestigious awards at the International Film Festival of South Asia (IFFSA) held in Toronto, Canada.
The film’s director, Manguirish Jagdish Bandodkar, received the Best Film award in the International Short category, while actress Prashanti Talpankar was honoured with the Best Actor award in the same category.
Applauding their achievement, AAP urged the state government to felicitate both artists at the upcoming International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Goa, ideally at the hands of the Chief Guest, as a mark of recognition for their contribution to Konkani cinema.
The party, however, criticised the BJP-led Goa Government for its “apathy” towards the promotion of local filmmakers and regional cinema. AAP pointed out that despite the government’s frequent organization of lavish events, the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) had failed to conduct a state film festival since 2018, only resuming it this year by merging the 10th, 11th, and 12th editions into one.
Calling for stronger institutional support, AAP demanded that the government go beyond mere lip service and provide better financial assistance, infrastructural support, and increased screenings of Goan films at IFFI to nurture local talent and promote Konkani cinema on the global stage.
