Panaji: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday said its ongoing #BJPCheBurak campaign has compelled the BJP government to hurriedly take up road repairs across Goa, though in a haphazard and temporary manner.
AAP President Adv. Amit Palekar alleged that despite repeated public suffering and accidents caused by pothole-ridden roads, the government remained inactive until AAP launched its state-wide agitation last week. “Only when AAP hit the streets did the government wake up and start repairing roads. Our helpline has been flooded with hundreds of photos and videos of potholes from across Goa,” Palekar said, cautioning that the current work amounted to “quick fixes” and not long-term solutions.
AAP highlighted that after protests in Majorda, Agarvaddo–Mandrem, and at the launch site of the campaign in Panjim’s Fontainhas area, the authorities rushed workers to fill potholes. However, the party claimed the repairs were of poor quality, in some cases creating safety hazards.
General Secretary (Organisation) Shrikrishna Parab said crores were allocated for pre-monsoon road works, yet citizens continue to suffer. “We will not accept shoddy patchwork. The Chief Minister must ensure proper, permanent repairs. We will continue our #BJPCheBurak campaign until every pothole in Goa is fixed,” Parab asserted.
AAP leaders, including Adv. Prasad Shahpurkar and Suvarna Haramlkar, joined protests at several locations demanding durable road repairs, while accusing the BJP of focusing on cabinet inductions rather than addressing public grievances.
