CALANGUTE: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday claimed credit for the commencement of road repair works at Viegas Vaddo, Arpora, stating that the government was compelled to act following citizens’ participation in the party’s #BJPCheBurak campaign.
Addressing the media during a Facebook Live session from Arpora, AAP leaders Manuel Cardozo and John Fernandes said that the repairs, which began recently, are a direct result of public pressure and AAP’s sustained campaign highlighting the poor condition of roads in Calangute.
Cardozo said the party’s protest held on September 15 had drawn attention to the issue, adding that residents had sent thousands of letters to the Chief Minister demanding urgent repairs.
“After our protest in Calangute last month, the government has finally started repairing the roads. But we will not allow shoddy or temporary patchwork in the name of road repairs. The people of Calangute deserve durable and safe roads, not another round of patchwork before elections,” Cardozo stated.
Fernandes, meanwhile, emphasized that Calangute, being Goa’s primary tourism hub, should have top-quality infrastructure. “Tourist season has already started. When visitors see pothole-ridden roads, it reflects poorly on Goa. Our economy depends on tourism, and such conditions tarnish the state’s image,” he said.
AAP leaders said the party will continue to monitor the quality of road works in Arpora and other parts of Calangute to ensure lasting repairs. They reiterated that sustained public pressure and the #BJPCheBurak campaign had forced the government to act.
