PANAJI: In a powerful and revealing press conference, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa leader Francis Coelho exposed what he described as a complete collapse of the state’s police communication and law and order infrastructure.
In a live demonstration before the media, Coelho attempted to contact police helplines 100 and 112, as well as the Panjim, Canacona, and Curtorim police stations using multiple devices and networks — all to no avail.
He further highlighted the dysfunction by displaying a blank information board at the Panjim Police Station, where senior officers’ contact numbers had been removed.
“This is not just mismanagement; it’s dangerous,” Coelho warned. “The government is misleading people by pointing to lower PCR call volumes as a sign of reduced crime. But the truth is, people can’t even reach the police.”
In a dramatic moment, Coelho attempted to call Chief Minister Pramod Sawant live — only to find the CM’s phone switched off. He condemned the situation as “Goa on auto-pilot.”
Key demands from Coelho include urgent restoration of police landlines, correction of the 112 helpline misrouting (which currently directs some calls to Maharashtra), reinstatement of public contact information for senior officers, and an independent audit of Goa’s law and order preparedness.
“The BJP government is spending more on PR than public safety,” Coelho declared, vowing to take the issue statewide.
