CANACONA: Defending champions AAS Cricketers, Mangan once again stamped their authority by retaining the Pagui Premier League title after a convincing 22 run victory over Nuvem Heartbreakers in the final of the 5th Pagui Premier League Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament 2026. The four day tournament was organised by the Akhil Goa Kshetriya Pagui Samaj and played at the Talpona Cricket Ground.
With this win, AAS Cricketers clinched their second title across the five editions of the league. The champions walked away with a cash prize of Rs.1,11,111 along with a crystal trophy valued at Rs.25,000. Runners up Nuvem Heartbreakers received Rs.55,555 and a crystal trophy. Bhumipurush Purush Warriors, Palolem finished third and earned Rs.33,333, while the fourth placed home side Chandrahas Tritons, Talpona were awarded Rs.22,222 along with smaller crystal trophies.
The tournament featured 10 teams, each playing seven league matches, culminating in a total of 39 matches including four playoff encounters conducted in an IPL style format. The competition drew strong participation and enthusiastic support from the local community.
Gratik Pagi of AAS Cricketers Mangan delivered an outstanding performance and was named Man of the Match in the final. He also secured the Man of the Tournament award, receiving trophies along with prizes that included a gift voucher and a 45 inch LED television.
The prize distribution ceremony was held in the presence of several dignitaries including Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Laxuman Pagui, Zilla Panchayat member Sumitra R Pag, Agonda Sarpanch Nilesh Pagii, CMC Vice Chairperson Gandesh C Madgaonkar, and other elected representatives and community leaders.
The tournament was inaugurated earlier by AGKPS President Rudresh N Namshikar and was notable for its unique community driven approach. Contributions were accepted only from within the community, vegetarian food was served to all players and spectators, and every match was streamed live on YouTube with multi camera coverage.
The event also featured the felicitation of several state level sportspersons and achievers from the Pagui community, celebrating excellence across multiple disciplines. Pagui Premier League Chairman Sarvanand N Kankonkar proposed the vote of thanks, while proceedings were compered by Pankaj H Namshikar.
