CANACONA: Wilson Fernandes, 53 years resident of Ponsulem is found dead with Gun-shot wounds, outside a Bar-N-Restaurant he was operating on rent at Sakhrewal-Canacona, half a kilometre away from Canacona Police Station.
Fernandes, who was motionless and badly injured (in the Pelvic region) in a pool of blood, was first noticed by the cook of the restaurant, at about 3.30 am (wee hours of Sunday morning), lying face down on the road, beside a parked Omni-Van. A local Gun and live Catrigues were also seen beside the body.
Fernandes is believed to have suffered gunshots from the local Gun from the blast of a live Cartridge (both) found next to his body, or from gun-shots of similar nature fired from elsewhere.
The Bar owner living nearby was informed by the Restaurant Staff, who reportedly informed the deceased Wife living in Margao and alerted Canacona police, informing media that he had rented to run his Restaurant to Wilson Fernandes two months ago. ‘When I came out, I saw Wilson Fernandes lying in a pool of blood oozing from his waist, fallen face-down on the roadside, with his face covered with ash (from some previously burnt material on the roadside), besides a parked Omni-Van. While blood was oozing out, I could see the lower part of the body in a mutilated condition, as he was hit by a bomb-blast.’
It is learnt that police reached the spot, conducted the panchanama and shifted the lifeless body of Fernandes to CHC –Canacona by morning, where doctors on arrival declared the victim dead.
The body was later shifted to South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) Margao for postmortem.
In the meantime, police quickly swung into action, and rounded up at least three people including the Restaurant Cook for questioning into the incident.
While Canacona police led by PI Harish Raut Dessai conducted the panchanama a team of Forensic Experts visited the site of the crime, SP (South) Sunita Sawant, along with Dy. SP Tikam Singh Verma visited the incident site, later in the day, as part of the investigation.
According to PI Harish Raut Dessai, the primary investigation revealed that Wilson died of Gunshots fired accidentally from the Gun found beside him. However, the actual cause will be known only after forensic and post-mortem reports are out.
Police, however, refused to divulge any more details of the incident till going to the press.
Sources claim that Wilson, a resident of Ponsulem, and his family living in Salcette, after closing the Bar he was running on rent at Sakhrewal, came out and was reportedly sitting on the edge of Omni-Van side door. Fernandes, a local businessman has reportedly taken the Bar-N-Restaurant (situated over ½ a Km away opposite the Canacona Police Station) at Sankhrewal on Rent and has been running it for the last two months, successfully.
He reportedly, after cleaning the Gun barrel was loading the local Gun with Powder and Cartridge, when the loaded Gun accidentally got fired and the Gun-shots hit his Pelvic region, causing enormous body damage and loss of blood.
Incidentally, according to sources, the Police have rounded –up and detained at least 3 people in the incident, and forensic experts picked up evidence from the site of the offence, no details are coming forth from the police, by either not attending calls or responding to messages.
