New Delhi: India recorded 203 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the total active cases to 3,961, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on June 2. Four new deaths were also reported during this period.
Delhi reported the highest number of new cases at 47, followed closely by West Bengal with 44. Kerala reported 35 new cases, while Maharashtra added 21 new active cases. Despite fewer new infections, Kerala continues to have the highest total active cases in the country, standing at 1,435.
Maharashtra currently has 506 active cases, Delhi 483, Gujarat 338, and West Bengal 331. Covid-related deaths were reported in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala, with each state recording one death in the past 24 hours.
Since the beginning of 2025, Kerala and Maharashtra have each reported seven Covid-19 deaths, Karnataka four, and Delhi three, bringing the total fatalities this year to 28. Meanwhile, 383 patients have recovered from the virus across the country in the last day.
A recent notable case includes a 63-year-old man with multiple health issues who passed away in a Bengaluru hospital on May 29. He had tested positive for Covid-19 after being admitted with weakness and was undergoing post-operative chemotherapy. Another fatality involved a 60-year-old woman in Delhi who died from Covid-19 complications related to acute intestinal obstruction.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta addressed concerns about the rising cases, stating that while 19 Covid-19 patients are currently hospitalized, there is no cause for alarm. “The government is prepared for every situation,” she assured during a visit to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital.
She emphasized the importance of caution and noted that many patients are managing their illness at home. The Delhi government recently issued an advisory to hospitals to ensure adequate availability of beds, medicines, and oxygen supplies as a precautionary measure.
