MAPUSA: Vehicular traffic along the busy Mapusa–Calangute road was severely affected on Tuesday after a large advertisement board collapsed due to strong gusty winds.
The hoarding came crashing down onto the road, halting the movement of vehicles and causing significant disruption, particularly for those heading towards the coastal belt of Calangute.
To manage the situation, traffic from Mapusa towards Calangute was diverted at the Nagoa Dream Circle, with vehicles being rerouted via Arpora.
Authorities acted swiftly to ease congestion and ensure public safety.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Personnel from the traffic police and municipal services promptly arrived at the scene to clear the debris and regulate traffic flow.
An inquiry is expected to be initiated into the structural integrity of the collapsed hoarding and the procedures followed in its installation. Meanwhile, motorists have been advised to use alternate routes until the affected stretch is fully cleared and reopened.
