New Delhi: The Indian men’s national football team will return to Goa for the first time since 2017 to host Singapore in a decisive AFC Asian Cup qualifying match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Tuesday.
In their previous encounter in Singapore, the Blue Tigers displayed resilience despite being reduced to ten men, earning a late equaliser from Rahim Ali to secure a 1-1 draw. However, India remains winless in the qualifiers, sitting third in Group C with two points from three matches, trailing Hong Kong and Singapore.
With qualification hopes hanging by a thread, India must win all three of their remaining fixtures and rely on favourable results from other matches to advance to the next stage of the tournament. Coach Khalid Jamil will be looking for a strong performance at home to keep India’s Asian Cup ambitions alive.
