VASCO: Fish wholesalers outlets were closed on Wednesday after a notice was issued the previous day by Mormugao Municipal Council Chief Officer to stop sale of fish by wholesalers.
MMC chairperson Damodar Kaskar informed that fish vendors from Vasco market were given vendors cards on Monday.
“Notices have been issued by MMC to fish wholesalers to stop the sale of fish in their outlets,” he said.
Custodio Dsouza, a traditional fisherman leader from Khariawado, said that it is good that the wholesalers were stopped from selling fish outside the market.
He also opined that fish should be only sold in the fish market and not illegally outside.
MMC councillor Vinod Kinlekar stated that it is excellent that a new fish market will be built for the fisherwomen, who have been doing business for many years.
“The new fish market will offer good hygiene, facilities,” he said.
