CANACONA: Filing a strong objection Akhil Goa Kshatriya Pagi Samaj (AGKPS) complained about the change in name of one Parmar Soniben to Pagi Soniben as published in a newspaper.
Raising a formal complaint to the Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant and Minister for Law, Govt of Goa, Aliexo Sequiera, AGKPS President Divakar Pagi, informed that the surname Pagi is only used by the Pagi samaj community and no other person can utilise the same. ‘The surname Pagi exclusively belongs to the Pagi community as per the notification and who are the member of Pagi community and the person who is born in pagi samaj. Hence no other person who is not from the Pagi community/samaj can use the surname as pagi.’
Pagi informed that recently on a newspaper one Soniben who is a resident of 2 signal trading centres, Bambolim camp published a notice that her name is changed from Parmer Soniben to Pagi Soniben and that the said Soniben is not from the Pagi Community and by misguiding the authorities have changed her name from Parmer to Pagi for obtaining benefits and such change of name cannot be allowed.
Speaking to this correspondent, Divakar Pagi further said, Under the banner of Akhil Goa Kshatriya Pagi Samaj (AGKPS), we have raised a formal objection to the proposed name change from Parmar Soniben to Pagi Soniben. We strongly oppose this change as the name “Pagi” is a notified identity of the Pagi Samaj’.
To support our objection, we have submitted a detailed letter along with our registration certificate to several key officials, including the Chief Minister, Law Minister, Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Chief Registrar, and the Collectors of both North and South Goa.
We have also held discussions with the Law Minister, urging him to take appropriate action on this matter. In our discussions, we demanded the cancellation of the registration should the name change be approved and rejected her application for change in name to Pagi’, informed.
According to Pagi, the memorandum was personally handed over and had a discussion with Law Minister Aleixo Sequiera, and urged him to take appropriate action.
