CANACONA: In a bid to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti with a message of cleanliness, parishioners from various Somudais in Agonda collected bags of waste strewn across their residential areas on Thursday.
Starting at 8:00 am, residents gathered at their common meeting points, where the parish provided T-shirts and gloves. Many participants also brought their own sticks to aid in picking up trash. Small groups then spread out across different localities to collect litter.
The cleanup drive proved successful, with multiple plastic bags filled with waste gathered and handed over to the Agonda panchayat collection center. At Karashir-moll A Somudai alone, over a dozen garbage bags were filled from areas where residents frequently dump daily waste, despite the village panchayat collecting dry waste twice a week.
After completing the drive, participants were provided snacks and water bottles before dispersing for the day, marking a community effort toward a cleaner Agonda.
