CANACONA: Agonda panchayat began construction works of Steps to enable smooth Gapati Visarjan (Immersion) at Parvem ward on Friday.
The foundation works were commenced at the hands of Canacona MLA/GLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar in the presence of ward panch and Agonda Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes.
The Ganapati Visarjan platform and Steps will be constructed at a cost of Rs.4.90 Lakhs at the traditional Ganesh immersion site near Dhavalkhazan (old Borim bridge) in Agonda river at Parvem Ward.
Ward members including ex-panch Agnelo Fernandes who has been persuing the development of the Visargan site, since a decade ago following demands of the Ganesh celebrating community of the ward, were present on the occasion.
Incidentally, Agonda panchayat with its own funds has taken up around five works in different wards including renovation of a Temple, a Sports Hall, Construction of a Road, A Gutter-cum-Floodgate drainage on MDR-49 road at Sawantawada, and some of these works have been completed.
Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes informed, panchayt has also cleaned the road-side gutters and opened up many of the blocked drainages leaving little or no scope for flooding of the roads in the village.
