Panaji: The Aguad Port and Jail Complex in Sinquerim announces the launch of ‘The Aguad Cinema,’ a new screening facility housed in the historic Kaal Kothri or Condemnation cell. This unique venue, once used to incarcerate severely sentenced inmates during the Portuguese regime, will now serve as a place for daily screenings of two short documentaries highlighting Goa’s rich history and culture.
Starting June 1, ‘The Aguad Cinema’ will feature two documentaries: ‘Freedom Movement of Goa’ (14 minutes) and ‘Forts of Goa’ (19 minutes), screened alternately from 10 am to 8 pm each day.
‘Freedom Movement of Goa’ delves into the relentless struggle and sacrifices of Goa’s freedom fighters in their quest to liberate the region from Portuguese rule.
‘Forts of Goa’ offers a visually stunning exploration of Goa’s majestic forts, showcasing their architectural grandeur and historical significance, and highlighting the strategic roles they played in defending and shaping Goa’s history.
“The Aguad Cinema adds a profound historical context to the viewing experience, enhancing the impact of the films. This new facility offers another unique way to engage with Goa’s past, providing a captivating and educational experience for all visitors,” said Naveen Chopra, Group CEO, Waterfront Experiences.
The documentaries are carefully curated to educate and inspire, making history accessible and compelling. This addition brings another dimension to the Aguad Port and Jail Complex, allowing visitors to delve deeper into the stories that have shaped Goa, making their visit even more enriching and memorable.
