MARGAO: Agxem Sports Club lifted the Late Roque Fernandes memorial 9-a-side football trophy by defeating United Club Unjirim 1-0 in the finals organised by Fondegal Sports Club and played at St.Alex Church ground curtorim on Sunday.
The final was played at a fast pace and both teams showed their determination and skill in front of a large crowd and had equal opportunity to score. The all-important goal came from the boots of Michael Paes of Agxem sports club in the first session of play.
In the second session, United club Unjirim missed the opportunity to level the terms while Agxem sports club missed to increase the tally and till the final whistle, Agxem rode on a first-half goal to take home the winner’s trophy.
Mr Alex Reginald Lourenco MLA of Curtorim was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr. Manuel Dias and other dignitaries and club officials.
