MARGAO: Agxem Sports Club entered the semifinal of the 9-a-side football tournament Organised by Sporting Club Virabhat by defeating Eklate FC 3-1 at St.Alex Church ground customs.
The match started at a fast pace and Eklate drew first blood through Vicky Cardozo in the very 5th minute of the play by beating Chadu goalkeeper of Agxem but their joy was shortlisted as Agxem player Alroy was brought down outside the box and free kick was awarded which was well converted by Nickson castanet beating goalkeeper and before half time Agxem scored another goal through Alroy Gomes to make 2-1 at the lemon break.
After the resumption of the second half, Eklate mounted pressure on Agxem and were closer to finding an equaliser but Joy Hilario shot out of target. On the other hand, Agxem inflated the lead through Nickson Castanah who’s powerful left-footer from the outside-the-box crush in the net. In the injury time, Eklate got the opportunity to reduce the margin but either the goalkeeper or defence denied the chance to score till the final whistle.
Elroy Gomes of Agxem sports club excels on the field with accurate passing and Assit was declared man of the match presented by Stanley Fernandes.
