PANAJI: AICC Secretary in charge of Goa, Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, has taken a sharp dig at Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, accusing him of failing to act on the Mhadei river dispute.
She alleged that the Goa CM is “compromised” on the issue and urged him to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a joint meeting with Karnataka and the Central government.
Speaking to the media after attending Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations at Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji, Dr. Nimbalkar questioned Sawant’s silence despite his party being in power both in Goa and at the Centre.
“If the Chief Minister truly cares about the interests of Goans, he must formally urge the Prime Minister to convene a tripartite meeting to resolve the Mhadei dispute,” she said.
“The Congress Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, has already written to the PM expressing willingness to attend such a meeting. Why hasn’t Goa’s CM done the same?”
Responding to criticism over her own stance on the issue, Dr. Nimbalkar said she had already made Karnataka’s position public, including documents proving Siddaramaiah’s outreach to the PM. She insisted that the ball is now in Goa’s court.
“Karnataka is protecting the interests of its people. It’s time Goa’s leadership does the same,” she added. “This is a matter that concerns the Centre and both states. It is Prime Minister Modi’s responsibility to take the lead and ensure a fair resolution where both states get their rightful share of water.”
Dr. Nimbalkar’s remarks intensify political pressure on the Goa government amid growing public concern over the Mhadei river issue.
