PANAJI: Ahead of the Zilla Parishad (ZP) elections, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Goa, Manikrao Thakare, on Tuesday alleged that the BJP government has failed to fulfil the promises made to the people of the state and asserted that voters would “teach the BJP a lesson” in the upcoming polls.
Thakare claimed that law and order has collapsed in Goa and held Chief Minister Pramod Sawant responsible for the situation. He also alleged that the BJP government has permitted illegal nightclubs to operate in the state.
Referring to the Congress–Goa Forward Party (GFP) alliance, Thakare said the coalition has fielded strong candidates for the ZP elections and appealed to the people of Goa to support and elect alliance nominees.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Amit Patkar intensified his attack on rival opposition parties, claiming that except for the Congress and the GFP, no other opposition party was targeting the BJP government.
“I don’t see any presence of the Aam Aadmi Party on the ground. The party led by Arvind Kejriwal is here only to split opposition votes. Kejriwal comes to Goa and attacks the Congress in every meeting, but we have not seen a single statement against the BJP,” Patkar said.
He further alleged that the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) was also attacking the Congress instead of the BJP, raising questions over whom these parties were supporting.
