PANAJ: Ajay Gupta, a co-partner of The Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, has been remanded to seven days of police custody by the Mapusa Court as investigations into the recent fire incident continue.
Gupta, who was arrested outside the state and brought to Goa on a 36-hour transit remand, maintains that he is only a “sleeping partner” in the establishment and has no role in its day-to-day functioning.
Speaking on Gupta’s behalf, Advocate Rohan Dessai said that his client is fully cooperating with investigators. While the police had sought 10 days of custody, the court granted a seven-day remand. Dessai added that, given the ongoing nature of the probe, it would be premature to comment on Gupta’s alleged involvement.
The investigation into the nightclub fire remains active, with police continuing to question those associated with the venue’s management and operations.
