Margao: The Alcon GSB Unity Cup 2025 has kicked off in grand style at the MCC ground in Margao, setting the stage for an exciting cricketing extravaganza. The opening matches saw Mapusa Dream Crushers and Commonwealth Developers Margao Mega Strikers emerge victorious, showcasing exceptional cricketing skills and sportsmanship that promise a thrilling tournament ahead.
The Alcon GSB Unity Cup 2025, organized by the Goa GSB Sports and Charitable Trust, began with a bang at the MCC ground in Margao. On Sunday, Mapusa Dream Crushers UC secured a convincing 36-run victory over Priority Titans. Batting first, Mapusa Dream Crushers posted an impressive total of 180/7 in their 20 overs, thanks to stellar contributions from Saish Hegde (37), Kaushal Churi (35), and Rajaram Kundaikar (35). This strong batting performance was complemented by Venkatesh Verlekar’s outstanding bowling, as he took 3/26 and was named Man of the Match.
In response, Priority Titans were bowled out for 144 in 18.2 overs, despite a valiant effort from Kapil Sinai Borker, who scored 33 runs. However, the Titans’ batting lineup was unable to match the Dream Crushers’ total, sealing the victory for Mapusa.
On the previous day, Saturday, Commonwealth Developers Margao Mega Strikers delivered a dominant performance against Rising Stars of Antruz UC. The Mega Strikers chased down a modest target of 112 with ease, achieving it in just 12.3 overs and winning by 5 wickets with 45 balls to spare. The opening partnership between Vismay Falgaonkar (35) and Durgesh Prabhugaokar (30) was instrumental in their victory.
The Mega Strikers’ bowlers also shone brightly, with Animesh Prabhugaonkar, Aditya Angle, and Siddhesh Prabhu Alvencar restricting the Rising Stars to 111/9 in 20 overs. Animesh Prabhugaonkar’s all-round performance earned him the Man of the Match award.
